How HIFU Works

Non-surgical Skin Tightening and Face Lifting uses ultrasound to penetrate deep into the skin’s SMAS layer, this is below the more superficial layers of the skin. The SMAS (superficial Muscular Aponeuric System), is the layer of tissues targeted by a surgeon during a face lift, and it connects the dermis to the facial muscles. HIFU sends ultrasonic heatwaves to the SMAS creating a low level injury at this layer, now the bodies natural healing response is to stimulate the production and organisation of fresh collagen at the targeted sites. This process unfolds over the next 12 weeks or so, during which the skin will continue to both lift and tighten, whilst developing a smoother and plumper appearance. As the HIFU targets below the surface layers of the skin, any low level injury to the skin is not outwardly visable, hence no downtime is needed so you can go about daily life, and apply makeup straight away.
